dredger Mersey mariner emergency prop repair






The dredger Mersey mariner underwent some emergency repairs late today. Some old cable has become wrapped round one of her prop shafts damaging a seal. To save docking the vessel she was tied up in the river near the Liverpool Arena at the Albert dock and beached when the tide went out! they were hoping to get the repair finished before the tide came in.

After a very short visit the Rotterdam left liverpool this evening. Plenty of people at the pierhead to watch. Very smooth it was too, only one tug on her bow, using her own thrusters she turned almost in place right in front of the liner berth before sailing out.

Cruise liner Rotterdam arrived at the pierhead Liverpool during the early hours of this morning, she was in Belfast yesterday. She has sailed the classic liner route from New York to Liverpool. She is the 1st of many liners due in Liverpool this year including the Queen Mary around October?

HMS Daring leaves Liverpool 25th May








New type 45 RN destroyer HMS Daring left the River Mersey this morning. Tugs Smit donau and Liverpool in attendance. This was Darings first pubic visit outside her home port since her commissioning. She is the lead vessel in her class and there will be 6 in total (should have been 12 but the order was halved)

Some nice light this evening so went to seacombe and woodside to catch HMS Daring. Isle of Man Steam Packets Manannan was also there. Daring is sailing tomoro morning around 9AM

HMS Daring on the River Mersey 22nd May







The newest vessel in the Royal Navies fleet arrived on the Mersey today. Type 45 destroyer HMS Daring arrived with HMS Biter and HMS charger escorting to the liner berth on the Pierhead. She will be here till next monday and open to the public on saturday and sunday. More pics over the weekend but heres a few from a murky morning.

Mersey movements WE 15th May







Bit of a catch up from the past week. Although the Manannan was the big news this week there were other vessels on the River Mersey. Support vessel Normand Skarven came oput of Cammel Lairds, she in support of the Ensco92 drilling platform thats in Liverpool bay at the moment. Another support/survey vessel, the Fugro Commander came out of Langton lock and went into Cammel Lairds. P&O vessel European Endeavour arrived and went into Liverpool docks. Finally "box boat" Hajo arrived and went into Birkenhead docks. Weather for the most part was the usual "Mersey murk" Maracas Bay was seen on her way to Eastham

Manannan arrives on the River Mersey 13th May






The new Steam Packet fast craft Manannan arrived on the Mersey today for berthing trials at the Pierhead. Impressive looking vessel, very imposing!! Soon to be a regular site on the mersey when she comes into service fully from the end of this month.

Isle of Man Steam Packets new vessel "Manannan"


The new fast craft Manannan joined the IOMSP fleet today. After an extensive refit in Portsmouth she arrived in Douglas today (delayed by bad weather). Manannan will replace the Viking on the Liverpool/Isle of Man route from the end of May. The rumour mill has her coming to Liverpool this week to carry out berthing trials at the IOMSP berth at the pierhead.

The Cammel Lairds ship yard on the River Mersey





While out to catch the new tanker Eagle Stavanger i went up the tower at the old Priory church in Birkenhead, this gives amazing views of the surrounding area but best of all looks straight down into the docks at Cammel Lairds shipyard. Here you can see the RFA Fort Victoria, in for her service and chem tanker Forth Fisher.

A "new" tanker arrived this morning, the Eagle Stavanger, built 2009! Caught her at New Brighton in driving rain and 50mph+ winds, then in sunshine at Monks Ferry.
