New year promises to be good on the Mersey, there may well be some "new" VLCC`s bound for Tranmere (vlcc= Very large crude carrier) and some early RN visits

Mersey movements 21st Dec

Tanker Godavari Spirit left the Mersey today, a lot lighter than when she arrived. She has been at the Tranmere oil terminal for a few days unloading crude.

Happy Rover on the River Mersey 17th Dec

The heavy lift vessel Happy Rover sailed out of the mersey today, she arrived late last week and was docked at Elesmere port, picking up the large white structure seen on her forward deck.

A very Damp River Mersey 8th Dec

Well the weather could not have been worse for photgraphy today, very overcast then rain then fog!! Had both cameras on ISO400 which is a 1st for the fuji s6500 and i was impressed. Took a few pics of the "Johnny Walker" memorial statue at the pierhead, he was a famous WW2 destroyer captain, read more on him here.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederic_John_Walker

2 vikings at 12 quays and Tanker Overseas Sophie was on the Tranmere oil terminal. The rescue rib was the bonus, she came speeding past us on the ferry as we past tranmere and just managed to catch it (fuji S6500fd @ iso400)

HMS Bangor at Liverpool pierhead

Gorgeous light this morning! heres the minesaweeper HMS Bangor moored at the Liner berth on the pierhead. Also here is Dublin Viking and IOMSP ship Ben My Chree at the 12 Quays terminal Birkenhead

HMS Bangor visits Liverpool

Suprise visit late today by the Royal Navy minesweeper HMS Bangor. She berthed at the liner terminal pierhead around 4pm. Light was not good and these handheld at around1/50th shutter speed

HMS Westminster Liverpool visit Cancelled

The proposed 2 day visit to Liverpool by the RN Frigate HMS Westminster has been cancelled, no reason has been given?? She was supposed to be at the liner berth for 2 days from this Saturday. This is the 2nd cancellation in as many months, HMS Liverpool was sheduelled to visit in November but did not show, again no reason given

It is "rumoured" that both RN carriers HMS Ark Royal and Illustrious are visiting Liverpool in the new year, if i hear anything i will post it

Mersey movements 4th Dec....Moondance

Went to get small coaster Merit on her way into Birkenhead docks and Moondance came out of the Lairds yard! this was unexpected. Moondance is the sistership of Riverdance which ran aground off Blackpool earlier in the year, she was scrapped in place as she could not be recovered. Stolt Petrol was leaving the docks and a RN patrol craft came out of the Albert dock marina

Mersey movements 2nd December

Gorgeous light today, bright winter sunshine and great visibilty. Seen today.....Keewhit, Sea Hawk, Sigas Duke, Mary C, Kiran Atlantic, Celtic Fortune. Hope the weather continues thru to the weekend as the RN frigate HMS Westminster is visiting Liverpool for 2 days from this coming saturday
