Mersey Movements 27th Jan, Stena Caledonia








After a quite week and all the "tanker" action i managed a river visit this morning to see the Stena Caledonia going into NSL (ex cammel lairds) yard on the mersey, she was assisted by the tug Smit Waterloo. Also seen today......Sigas Duke, Marida Magnolia, Stela Virgo, Arklow Resolve. The large tanker Stena Natalita was berthed at the Tranmere oil terminal.

VLCC tanker BW Bauhinia leaves Liverpool 17th Jan





After a quick turnaround at the Tranmere oil terminal the VLCC BW Bauhinia left the mersey this morning. Looking a little lighter in the water after discharging some 80000 tons of crude. She is no bound for Norway.

Large oil tanker BW Bauhinia arrives on the Mersey








The VLCC BW Bauhinia arrived this afternoon, very impressive vessel at nearly 160000 tons and carrying some 80000 tons of crude for Tranmere. Tugs Svitzer Stanlow and Milford were assisting. She is sailing out on Saturday 17th at aound 11.00AM

HMS Ark Royal comes to Liverpool 15th Jan






The Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal arrived on the River Mersey this afternoon, she will be here till Monday and open to the public on Friday and saturday. She had a Merlin and Seaking helicopters on the flight deck

VLCC on its way to the Mersey

The VLCC (very large crude carrier) BW Bauhinia will be arriving on the river mersey this coming Friday (16th). She will be the largest gross tonnage vessel to use the river Mersey, she weighs 158569gt and will be carrying over 80.000 tns of crude to Tranmere. She beats the previous largest tonnage vessel "Nisa" by nearly 8000 tons, Nisa came in 1988.

She will be on the River Mersey between 14.00 and 15.00hrs, with no less than 4 tugs assisting.
If you miss her on the friday then you can catch her leaving at around 11.00hrs on Saturday 17th

The tanker Eagle Tampa arrived on the high tide today, bound for tranmere assisted by tugs Svitzer Stanlow and Svitzers temporary tug on the mersey "Milford". Also in today was Clyde Fisher, a chemical tanker, she went into Birkenhead docks.

HMS Ark Royal Liverpool visit this week

The Royal Navy carrier HMS Ark Royal will be visiting Liverpool this Thursday 15th at around midday, she will be at the pierhead for 4 days and open to the public on the friday and the saturday. She will be sailing on Monday 19th. (this is all subjct to last minute changes by the RN and i am not responsible for any misinformation, the above was off the mersey pilots on the radio merseyside saturday morning show).

Yet another tanker inbound today, Australian Spirit seen here inbound to Tranmere with tugs SVitzer Bidston and Oakgarth. Yesterdays arrival Maersk Producer left today after an overnight turnaround.

Tanker "Maersk Producer" arrives 4th Jan




Large oil tanker Maersk Producer arrived on the Mersey this afternoon, bound for Tranmere oil terminal. Been busy at Tranmere last week or so, 2 more large crude carriers are currently moored of Anglesy awaiting transit to the river mersey.

RFA Gold Rover leaves for service, 4th Jan





The RFA ship Gold Rover left Birkenhead docks today, she has been in NSL for work. The fleet supply vessel is on her way Portsmouth, conditions were "crap" to say the least, very overcast and drizzle.

Tanker Ocean Lady arrives on the Mersey 3rd Jan







The tanker Ocean Lady arrived on the river today, she has now gone onto the Tranmere oil terminal. .

Mersey movements 2nd Jan 2008









1st update of the new year!! At the Alfred lock entrance to Birkenhead docks on the high tide today, lots of "traffic". Out of the NSL yard and into birkenhead was Atlantic Osprey with 3 tugs, Also into the lock was support vessel Bibby Sapphire. Out on the river the tanker Atalandi on her way to the Tranmere oil terminal. Also seen today....... Acavus, Ametysth, Karin, Clipper Nadja.
